Our Pastor and Family
Bro. Josh and Sis. Jessica Smith
I was born on January 18th, 1985.. I married my best friend Jessica on July 9th, 2005. We have 2 beautiful girls, our oldest Gracie Ann was born on July 7th 2006 (we got to bring her home on our 1st anniversary) and our youngest is Haven Ivy who was born on August 5th 2011. We were all born and raised in Georgia, primarily in the west Ga area, although a lot of my family on my Mother’s side is from Blue Ridge. Jessica and I have committed to trying to raise our children according to the Word of God. We are in no way a “perfect” family, but we are strongly convicted that the best way to raise children is according to God’s Word. I am a King James ONLY Baptist preacher . I am also Pre-Millennial in doctrine and I believe in the indisputable return of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am what today would be called “old fashion” when it comes to my convictions about how a Christian should live their daily life and how the Church should conduct itself. I believe that we are to be separate from the world in every way according to 2nd Corinthians 6:17 “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,”. I believe that you can hold true to the Word of God and still be a loving compassionate Christian and reach lost souls without compromising. I was Saved by the Grace of God when I was 13 years old on a Wednesday night at a church that I rode the church van to. I was called to preach when I was 15 years old, but I ran from my calling for several years. I didn’t feel that I was worthy to be a preacher. I felt that there was no way that I could be a preacher, because I didn’t grow up in church and didn’t’ feel that I knew enough about God. I spent several years running from God and out of His will. I am thankful that God granted me mercy during those years of disobedience. I would never recommend for anyone to disobey God, but I am thankful for what He allowed me to learn during that time. When Jessica and I started to date I was completely out of church. It wasn’t long and I was completely in love with this beautiful girl from Dallas, Ga. She had been born and raised going to Northside Baptist Church in Dallas, where her and several members of her family served faithfully. It wasn’t long (two weeks) after we started dating that she invited me to church. My response was “ I am saved but I don’t go to church, too many hypocrites, and I rest on Sunday”, her response “ I really like you, but I won’t date anyone that doesn’t go to church,” she said “it doesn’t have to be my church but I was raised not to date anyone that doesn’t go to church.” So I got up on Sunday morning and went to church. It wasn’t long and God started dealing with me again about what He had called me to do. I finally surrendered to God’s call to preach and I have never been sorry. God has allowed me to do more than I ever thought possible. I was privileged to serve as an assistant Pastor/Youth Pastor at Northside Baptists church for several years, later God moved us to Beulahland Baptist Church, where Brother Randy Clarke is the Pastor, where I was privileged to assist and serve under his leadership. During the time I was at Beulah, God began to open many doors and led me into evangelism, where God kept me busy preaching revivals, camp meetings, pulpit supply, and many other special meetings, and I became the director of a county wide youth ministry in conjunction with several other like faith churches. The youth ministry is called, R.O.C.K. S.O.L.I.D. Youth which stands for, “Reaching Our County’s Kids by Shining Our Light In Darkness” and I am still honored to be the director over this wonderful ministry. It was during that time, that God started to make it clear, that He was leading me to serve in ministry as a Pastor. In November of 2015 God opened the door for me to become the Pastor of Nebo Baptist Church. It hasn’t always been easy but there is nothing better than serving God and I can’t wait to see what else He has for us in the future.
